Christianity, hard times, and religious freedom

My thoughts and prayers are with David and Fiona Fulton, a missionary couple sentenced in Gambia to 1 years imprisonment with hard labour for sedition. The only thing they did it seems was to spread the Christian message.

We are so lucky in this country. despite the encroachment, by the present government and local councils, on our personal freedom in recent times we can still, on the whole, practise our religion without fear of retribution. We need to guard this freedom zealously.

I was delighted to attend two churches over the Christmas period that were both packed. There are less people that attend church nowadays but I suspect that may be reversed if we, as a country, go through some hard times in the next year or so. It is when times are hard that people feel a need to belong. I hope that churches and individual Christians will welcome people with open arms and try to help and support them in every way.
